Who can play for the Dowling Soccer Club (DSC)?
The DSC is open to any child between the ages of 8 and 18.
|
How do I register and how much does it cost?
Registration for the fall season is usually in Feb/March and registration for the spring season is in Nov/Dec. You must register your child on-line (Link to site). Cost for the DSC recreational teams is $75. Late registrations will be charged $90. |
What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers the costs of
field maintenance, field equipment,
player insurance, referees, medical
supplies, and registration fees to the
Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League.
In addition, the club must also pay a
fee for every roster change, player
card, etc. that occurs after the
deadline.

My child played for a different club
last season. Is that a problem?
In the fall, you don't need to do
anything extra. If you switch clubs from
fall to spring, you will need to get a
transfer form signed and submitted to
the Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer
League. The form will need to be signed
by your child’s previous coach and that
club's registrar and then by the DSC
registrar. You should also get your
child's player card. This will save the
DSC from paying for a new one. Player
cards are issued in the fall and used
for both seasons.
|
Do I need to buy a uniform?
Each year, the DSC will provide a set of white and maroon game shirts to each player in the fall and to new players in the spring. You will need to provide shorts, socks, soccer cleats, shin guards and the appropriate size ball. Some teams choose to purchase uniforms. Your child's coach will let you know if you need to purchase a different uniform. |
Do you have teams for U8 and under?
Because of our field restrictions, the
DSC only has teams from U10 and up. |
How are teams assigned?
Teams are assigned based on age and availability.
|
How do I know what age group my child should be in?
In general, the age brackets are based
on the players' age on Aug. 1 of the
fall season. For example, if your child
turns 10 before Aug. 1, he/she would be
placed on a U11 team. If your child
turns 10 after Aug. 1, he/she would be
placed on a U10 team.
|
Are teams same sex or coed?
You can choose to play on an All Girl team or a Coed Team.
|
How can I get more involved in the DSC?
There are numerous ways to be involved
in the DSC. You could volunteer to serve
on our board (see our board
job
descriptions). You can assist with field
maintenance by contacting our
director
of fields. You could
represent your child’s team at our
regular DSC board meetings. Meetings are
generally held on the Thursday after the
second Tuesday of each month. (see our
meeting schedule) You could also
volunteer to coach or assistant coach
your child's team.
|
What do I need to know to be a coach? To coach in the DSC you should have an
understanding or soccer rules
appropriate to the age group you are
coaching. You do not need to have played
or refereed soccer. There are many
resources available to you if you wish
to learn more. We can help you find
workshops, seminars, manuals, and even
other coaches who will help you learn.
We can provide information and ideas for
running practices and developing game
day strategies. We also provide
supportive parents who are willing and
able to help you.
While everyone enjoys winning, youth
soccer is a time to develop skills and
friendships and to have fun. By learning
together, you can create a special bond
with the team, often including your own
child!
